Charlottesville Senior Portraits | Malika – FCHS – Class of 2015
I am so excited that it’s spring senior portrait season again! The days are getting longer, the weather is warming up, and the trees are full of gorgeous colors! I always have the best time during my sessions and Malika’s was no exception. She’s a senior from Fluvanna County High School’s Class of 2015, in Palmyra, Virginia, and not only is she beautiful, she’s an absolute sweetheart too!
We had her session at one of my go-to locations in Charlottesville, Virginia. It’s such a fantastic place! I’ve had many senior sessions there but every time I go, I seem to find something a little different! Many of the trees had lost their blooms but we were lucky enough to find a few that still had some gorgeous purple flowers on them. We then moved over to another area where they had some Dogwood trees and a cool path running between them. The trees, the super green grass, Malika’s beautiful self…it was so all so wonderful!!
I’ve done the glitter shot a few times before but to change things up, I had Malika throw it up in the air instead of blowing it out of her hands. I absolutely love the way it turned out! She really looks like she’s celebrating being finished with high school…which I’m sure she is!! 🙂
I really enjoyed spending the afternoon with Malika and her mother Minerva. The weather was perfect and they both were so much fun to work with!! Enjoy the rest of your senior year and good luck with your future Malika!!

Charlottesville Senior Portraits | Zack – FCHS – Class of 2015
I love this time of year. The days are getting longer, the weather is warming up, the trees finally have some leaves on them and Charlottesville spring senior portraits are in full swing! Today on the blog we have Zack, a senior from Fluvanna County High School’s Class of 2015. Zack, who is also the FCHS salutatorian, will be attending the University of Virginia in the fall so that’s where we headed for his session.
I’ve only had a few senior portrait sessions at UVA because…well, I don’t really know why! I guess I though the campus would be too crowded, or there wouldn’t be enough variety. This couldn’t be farther from the truth! There were so many fantastic locations, I could have photographed Zack there all day long! SO much beautiful architecture and history; it really is a gorgeous location! I had so much fun wandering around the campus with Zack and his mom and dad. Zack was totally at home and I can only imagine he’ll have so much fun when he’s a student here!
Thanks for a wonderful afternoon guys! I really enjoyed spending the afternoon with you and really enjoyed exploring the campus! Good luck at UVA Zack and enjoy the rest of your senior year!

Charlottesville Senior Portraits | Leslie – FCHS – Class of 2015
I can’t believe how quickly this year has flown by! It seems like I had my first senior portrait with Leslie, one of my Fluvanna County High School reps a few monthss ago but really it was back in July! Since she’d already had a natural session over the summer and her personalized volleyball session in the winter, we decided to round things out with an urban spring session. We started the session at a location in Charlottesville that I hadn’t used in awhile, there were so many great spots, I’m going to have to start using it again!
It was an unbelievably windy day so I actually shot part of her session using natural light. That may not seem like a big deal to some of you but I use my lights during every single session so it was really something different for me! 🙂 One of the benefits about using natural light is the incredible catchlights you can get in your subjects eyes. Leslie’s eyes are beautiful on their own but with natural light and a reflector? They looked over to top gorgeous! Oh and how fabulous is her cheetah print maxi dress?!
We then moved over to the IX Art park to take advantage of all of the amazing art work. Leslie’s green jacket was the perfect choice with the incredible graffiti! I literally could have photographed her in it all day long. I had to force myself to stop taking photos so she could change into her next outfit!
We ended the session with a shot I’ve been wanted to try for years! I’d always noticed how beautiful the Charlottesville city lights looked up on Pantops Mountain and I finally got a chance to photograph it! You can really tell how windy it was but Leslie is a natural model…even her hair was cooperating! I can’t believe how perfectly the wind caught it!
Thanks for another wonderful afternoon Julie & Leslie! I always enjoyed spending time with you both and have really enjoyed photographing you over the school year Leslie. Good luck at the University of Mary Washington and enjoy the rest of your senior year!

Charlottesville Senior Photography | Kara – FCHS – Class of 2015
I am so excited that winter is over and this season of senior portrait photography is beginning! I always have so much fun and Kara, a senior from Fluvanna County High School’s session was no exception. She is the first spring session for the class of 2015 and I couldn’t have asked for a better way to start the season!
She was interested in an urban session (I love all kinds of sessions all but urban senior portraits are my favorite!) so of course I headed to my go-to urban location in Charlottesville, the IX Art Park! I’ve talked about how every portrait session I have here is different and this proves it! I fell in LOVE with this new addition! It reminded me of a rickshaw…they even had a few bicycles there that could pull the thing around!
Kara loves going to concerts, especially at The Jefferson so we had to include a few shots by their well known green door. She even met Julian Casablancas from the Strokes there one night before the show! How freaking cool is that?! I also have to mention that I was really happy that she brought her Killers shirt and her Doc Martens! Your senior portraits should represent you and your style and Kara totally did that!
She’s also a member of the FCHS speech team and has been in tons of school plays. It really showed…she was incredible in front of the camera. Don’t even get started on how gorgeous her eyes are…the photo below on the left takes my breath away!
I had such a great time Kara and and her Mom during the session. Thanks for a fantastic afternoon ladies! Enjoy the rest of your senior year Kara and good luck with your future plans!!!

Charlottesville Senior Photography – Ballerina Snow Session
The weather here near Charlottesville, Va has been crazy over the past month. Today it’s almost 80 degrees but a few weeks ago, we were bombarded with snow and ice! During one of the milder days, I decided to take advantage of the snow on the ground and have an impromptu senior photography session with Erin & her sister Sarah. They are both so beautiful!! I’ve photographed Erin many, many times before but this was my first time having Sarah in front of my camera. I have to say, she’s an absolute natural!
I’d never had a session in the snow before and there were definitely some differences…the snow reflected the colors of the sky and gave everything a slightly blueish tint! This worked in our favor though when the sun started to set. They sky was amazing and all of the colors reflecting back into the snow gave everything a gorgeous pink glow! Unfortunately, we had to stay on the road because the snow was so deep but I love the way it turned out!
I loved working with these girls! You should check out her Erin’s studio ballerina session we had back in July. One of the great perks about being an AJP senior rep is all of the extra session you receive! I can’t wait to until we have your personalized session Sarah!

Charlottesville Senior Portraits – AJP 2016 Senior Rep Team
Charlottesville Senior Portraits – AJP 2016 Senior Reps
After a long winter, I am beyond excited to get back to what I love…taking Senior portraits! I’m even more excited than usual because last week I was able to photograph my senior reps for the Class of 2016! We had to postpone our session THREE times due to the weather but we finally got together and I had SO much fun! I’ll be photographing this awesome bunch through out the school year (including some seriously cool editorial studio sessions). Be on the look out! Unfortunately, my Charlottesville High School rep Robyn wasn’t able to make it so I’ll be posting her session in a few weeks.
First we have the up and coming seniors representing Fluvanna County High School in Palmyra, Va. I’ve known most of these kids and their families for years and it’s wonderful to be working with them!
Brianna – FCHS | Class of 2016
Brianna is super involved in her school. Not only does she play basketball, softball and volleyball, she’s also a member of the SGA and was Miss Fluvanna 2015! She is a natural in front of the camera and I’m really excited to have her as one of my reps!
Christopher – FCHS | Class of 2016
I’ve known Chris and his family for years…I actually took his brothers’ senior portraits a few years ago! Just like his brothers, he’s been involved with soccer practically since birth! He’s played for Fluvanna County High School since he was in the eighth grade, and before that he was a member of many different travel teams. He’s also the first guy to be an AJP rep!
Maddie – FCHS | Class of 2016
I’ve also known Maddie’s family for years. The very first FCHS senior portrait session I ever had was with her older sister! She loves to read, plays soccer, swims for FCHS and is a member of the BETA club.
Morgan – FCHS | Class of 2016
Morgan is interested in photography, so of course I wanted her as one of my reps! In addition to being a member of the SGA and BETA Club, she swims for FCHS and is a cheerleader!
Sarah – FCHS | Class of 2016
Many of you know that Sarah’s older sister, Erin, is one of my 2015 reps and has been my assistant since she was a sophomore. I am very happy that now it’s Sarah turn to be one of my reps! She’s been taking dance lessons forever, is a member of the SGA and BETA Club, runs cross country and, thanks to Erin, is no stranger to being photographed!
Next up we have my 2016 reps from Monticello High School in Charlottesville, Va. Every year the number of senior portraits I take for this school grows. I’m very happy to have three wonderful ladies as my 2016 reps.
Breanna – MHS | Class of 2016
Breanna loves photography too! She has been involved with it for three years and has been playing softball for MHS for the past two years. Welcome to the team Breanna!
Emily – MHS | Class of 2016
Emily is very involved with her school, too! She’s a member of the Key Club and student council, she plays varsity field hockey and is the president of the Latin Honor Society. I also took her sister’s senior portraits last year!
Mariah – MHS | Class of 2016
Rounding out my group of MHS reps is Mariah. She’s in the honor society for math and Spanish, loves riding horses and is a member of 4H. Her personalized session this year will definitely involve her horse!
Jordann – UCA | Class of 2016
Last but not least, we have from United Christian Academy in Greene County, VA. Not only is Jordann an avid horseback rider, she also Fox Hunts! She is Junior Class secretary, and is a member of the yearbook staff.
Thanks again for a great afternoon guys! I had so much fun and can’t wait until next time!!
