I’ve photographed many different sports over the years but Trinity, senior from Fluvanna County’s High School’s Class of 2019, was my first karate session!
I first met Trinity and back in June when I took her yearbook photo. I had a lot of fun with Trinity and her mom Julie during the session so I was really excited when they contacted me for an extreme studio sports session.
Trinity has been training at the Lake Monticello Shotokan Karate Academy (where she currently teaches and coaches) since she was four years old. She has been competing nationally since age 5, received her Junior Black Belt at age 10 and her First Don ( adult black belt) at age 12. She will be going for Second Don on Sunday. Good luck Trinity!!
She has competed in Junior Olympics, AAU Nationals, and NKF Nationals, won several gold, silver, and bronze at the local and national level and has even been to the National Championships twelve times! Talk about some serious skills!
Typically I deliver these sessions in black and white so you don’t have to deal with the competing colors of the uniforms and equipment. All you are focusing on is the athlete and their gear. Sometimes though, color just wins over!
Especially when I’m using a fog machine and colored gels. Here’s a comparison of the two. While black and white still looks great, those pops of red & blue look so cool.
Thanks again Trinity! You are absolutely beautiful and are a delight to photograph!! Enjoy the rest of your senior year and keep kicking butt! 🙂
